WELCOME TO LYON’S 19TH DIALOGUES EN HUMANITE
PARC DE LA TÊTE D’OR JULY 5TH TO 7TH 2019
LET’S TALK ABOUT TOMORROW!
The Lyon Dialogues for Humanity are a free event featuring numerous discussion groups, over 150 workshops and a variety of artistic performances under the trees of a beautiful park.
Under the slogan “Let’s talk about tomorrow”, we will be invited to explore, interact and learn to live together more harmoniously by examining our identities, relationships within and between our communities as well as our relationship to Nature.
This year’s programme is organised around three main themes or “paths”:
PATH A : HUMAN RIGHTS ARE EACH AND EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY
- Will the 21st century revolve around the 70-year-old Declaration of Human Rights’ core values, moving from a mere statement of intent to an enforceable law?
- Mitigating the effects of climate change in the Himalayas (20 % of the world’s population concerned) : what solutions are farmers, scientists, activists, politicians putting forward? What are our rights to water and biodiversity? Does nature have rights? With Devinder Sharma, Astinder Kaur, Rahul Mahajan, Ravneet Kaur, Ravinder Singh, Michel Granger, Arnaud Apoteker
- Fostering a fraternity economy and sustainable development underpinned by human rights in order to free humankind from poverty and need.
- Equal Light, a movement initiated in Africa to fulfil objective no.5 of sustainable development, i.e. gender equality and women’s empowerment by 2030 – an international campaign which will also liaise with the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in Lyon on July 7th.
- Global Appeal to All Conscience for a worldwide citizen resistance.
- Jai Jagat 2020, global march initiated by Rajgopal, aimed at defending farmers’ rights to land - from Delhi in September 2019 to Geneva in September 2020 with participants from all over the world.
- Climate justice and social equity.
- Does Nature have rights?
- Food safety and climate resilience.
- Poetry to support rights.
PATH B : ARE WE ALL FUTURE MIGRANTS OR NOMADS?
- Soon two thirds of Europeans will face extreme climate events like those in Africa and India.
- Building peace in a world which will soon be home to 10 billion people.
- Will 21st century work patterns make us all nomads?
- Women’s role in mobility.
PATH C : LET’S INVENT TOMORROW WHILE EXPLORING THE STORIES THAT SHAPE OUR LIVES
Our roots run deep and wide. To build future ‘good living’ we need to explore them all. By examining the present and turning our backs on false stories we can strike the right balance between tradition and modernity.
- The Dialogues will liaise with the European Week of Astronomy and Space science in Lyon (24-28th June 2019) : Facing obscurantism, a new perspective on Earth with astrophysicists Jenny Scorce, Isablle Vauglin, Hubert Reeves - Earth Seen from the Heart – and Patrick Viveret.
- Shaking off the false beliefs that divide us : the discovery of Lucy the Australopithecus and other scientific breakthroughs have put paid to theories claiming the existence of different human races. With palaeontologist Maurice Taiëb.
- Digital technology : children and screens.
- Can we feed 10 billion humans and sustain the planet?
